What kiddo does get to do are the beginning and end bits. The crucial bits have to be done and put together by an adult, hence I&#8217;ve decided to categorise this here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you need are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>disposable food containers, preferably round ones (bowls)<\/li>\n<li>cardboard<\/li>\n<li>toothpicks \/ pointy food sticks<\/li>\n<li>ice cream stick<\/li>\n<li>sticky tape<\/li>\n<li>small coin<\/li>\n<li>colour paper<\/li>\n<li>colouring material<\/li>\n<li>scissors<\/li>\n<li>small screwdriver<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Need to make a &#8216;soil&#8217; cover to hide the mechanism of the happy potted plant. Get kiddo to trace the shape of the opening of the container.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8044\/8082876510_d2a683675e_o.jpg\" alt=\"Going potty\" width=\"450\" height=\"674\" \/><\/li>\n<li>The shape should be the same shape as the opening and must be trimmed at the edges to fit the container later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8190\/8082883721_088b817dfb_o.jpg\" alt=\"Going potty\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make an approx 3 cm slit in the centre of the round cardboard.<\/li>\n<li>Drill a hole on the ice cream stick with the small screwdriver. The hole should be slightly off centre.<\/li>\n<li>Cut 2 small pieces of cardboard and trim down a small piece of toothpick\/food stick.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8056\/8082876652_796b13e325_o.jpg\" alt=\"Going potty\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The following is the main mechanism that allows the plant to move. The toothpick\/food stick should be able to rotate freely within the ice cream stick.<\/li>\n<li>Slot in the ends of the toothpick\/food stick into the grooves of the cardboard pieces. The toothpick\/food stick should be able to rotate freely within the grooves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8193\/8082876754_d54698f8f6_o.jpg\" alt=\"Going potty\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adhere the cardboard pieces to the under side of round piece.<\/li>\n<li>Attach a coin to the shorter end of the ice cream stick as a &#8216;pendulum&#8217; weight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8196\/8082876846_9f6d934716_o.jpg\" alt=\"Going potty\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turn the mechanism around and place it over the container. It should fit nicely and the ice cream stick should stay perpendicular to the &#8216;pot&#8217; and sway when tapped lightly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8056\/8082883613_5d85d20d81_o.jpg\" alt=\"Going potty\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Last but not least, the kid now gets to draw, colour, cut and stick on her plant. In this case, she decided to make a purple mushroom.
