So she decided that she&#8217;d have a pet dragon, wait out the day for a hapless knight to come galloping by and maybe she&#8217;d prefer to have him toasted for turning up 5 minutes late.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you need are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 longish cardboard box<\/li>\n<li>3 toilet rolls<\/li>\n<li>1 drinking straw<\/li>\n<li>colour paper<\/li>\n<li>coloring material<\/li>\n<li>scissors\/ craft knife<\/li>\n<li>4 pipe cleaners<\/li>\n<li>brass fasteners<\/li>\n<li>twine (about 1 metre)<\/li>\n<li>sticky tape<\/li>\n<li>glue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Find a longish box and cut it into 2 (length-wise). Flatten the parts and use only the inner blank surface for the craft. They will be the upper and lower jaws of the dragon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Dragon puppet\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8257\/8688025450_82f3ebc516_o.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Get kiddo to draw the dragon&#8217;s teeth along the sides of the cardboard. Then she&#8217;s to proceed to trim out the teeth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Dragon puppet\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8118\/8688025640_d25345bb22_o.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Then get kiddo to choose the colours of her pet, draw out details such as scales, eyes, horns, wings etc while the following construction bits gets done.<\/li>\n<li>Punch holes on the upper and lower jaws. The upper jaw will require 5 holes (2 nostrils, 2 cheeks, 1 neck), the lower jaw will need 2 holes (for cheeks).<\/li>\n<li>Secure a drinking straw on the upper jaw.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Dragon puppet\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8124\/8686908941_fd181e5ba8_o.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Secure 3 pipe cleaners to the lower jaw. Twist them to make it look like the dragon&#8217;s fiery breath. Kiddo can do this too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Dragon puppet\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8393\/8686909075_77f781efae_o.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Secure a coin near the pipe cleaners. It is to act as weight for the dropping of the jaw.<\/li>\n<li>Trim bits of the sides of the lower jaw to allow greater angle of opening.<\/li>\n<li>Make a small slit in near the pipe cleaners on the lower jaw and pull through a piece of twine. Knot on one end and secure it at the bottom of the lower jaw.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Dragon puppet\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8254\/8686909183_06bc4aba4e_o.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Pull the other end of the twine through the straw and toilet roll. Fold in part of the toilet roll to allow more space for the jaws to open.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Dragon puppet\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8546\/8686909379_efd010dc44_o.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Fasten a toilet roll (it&#8217;d have a hole punched near one end) to the back of the dragon&#8217;s head with a brass fastener.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Dragon puppet\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8115\/8688026796_a2bb4d0038_o.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Fasten the sides (cheeks) of the jaws with brass fasteners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Dragon puppet\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8126\/8686909567_99f674b231_o.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Fold the teeth on the lower jaw inwards to allow the jaws to close fully.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Dragon puppet\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8258\/8686909769_d8fb7df505_o.jpg\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Extend the neck and body of the dragon with 2 more toilet rolls. Pull the twine out fully through the end of the toilet rolls. It should be comfortably long enough for kiddo to pull and release.<\/li>\n<li>Get kiddo to ready the parts she drew\/made\/cut and secure them onto the dragon with glue or sticky tape.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Dragon puppet\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8546\/8688026938_2b9c157c10_o.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Make a little loop with a pipe cleaner at the pulling end of the twine.
